Five-Dimensional DVD Could Store 1.6
TerabytesResearchers at the Swinburne University of Technology,
in Hawthorn, Australia, have found a way to add more dimensions to optical disc
recording. They use multiple wavelengths and polarizations of light to record
data on multilayered discs. The technique could pack 1.6 terabytes of data on a
standard-size DVD, the researchers say.
