Dear All, just a REMINDER about: ********************************************************** STATISTICALPS: Summer course on medical statistics.in the Alps ********************************************************** * TWO PHASE STRATIFIED DESIGNS AND ANALYSES FOR EPIDEMIOLOGY * 30 August - 3 September 2009 Ponte di Legno - Brescia, Italy TWO SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE FOR PhD STUDENTS * INSTRUCTORS * Prof. Norman Breslow Prof. Thomas Lumley Department of Biostatistics University of Washington Seattle, WA * COORDINATORS * Prof. Maria Grazia Valsecchi Dott. Laura Antolini Center of Biostatistics for Clinical Epidemiology Department of Clinical Medicine and Prevention University of Milano-Bicocca * ABSTRACT * This course will survey the field of design and analysis of case-control and case-cohort studies. It will discuss two phase stratified designs for sampling subjects from a large cohort for whom additional data are collected (e.g. assays of biological tissues, genetic data…) for specific purposes. A general framework for the analysis of data from such studies will be presented, that aims to incorporate into the analysis useful information from subjects in the main cohort. Methods of adjustment of inverse probability sampling weights that can enhance the recovery of information from main cohort will be discussed. Example data including data from the National Wilms Tumor Study (NWTS) will be analysed using the R statistical package, in particular the R SURVEY package developed by Thomas Lumley. Some background in case-control and case-cohort studies is assumed. *** DEADLINE FOR REGISTRATION IS 12 JUNE *** For full details on the course, please visit the web site: http://www.statmed.medicina.unimib.it/statisticalps2009/statisticalps.htm
