A vacancy has arisen for a statistician in the Statistics and Clinical Audit service of NHS Blood and Transplant, based in north Bristol. The salary will be on Band 5 of the Agenda for Change salary scale (£20710 - £26,839). New entrants to the NHS would normally start at the minimum of the band. Further details: NHSBT is responsible for optimising the supply of blood, organs, plasma and tissues and raising the quality, effectiveness and efficiency of blood and transplant services. A vacancy has arisen for a Statistician I in the Statistics and Clinical Audit Service of NHSBT. The Statistics and Clinical Audit service of NHSBT is responsible for the design and analysis of studies in organ and tissue donation and transplantation, blood donation and transfusion medicine. The service also undertakes clinical audits of blood and transplantation services designed to continuously improve the quality of care provided to donors and recipients of organs and blood components. The analysis and interpretation of results informs decision making on developments in donation, transplantation and transfusion, the clinical care of donors and patients, and equity of access to treatment. This post gives an opportunity for recent or potential graduates from a Masters programme in statistics, or an undergraduate programme with a substantial statistical component, to join a large team of statisticians and clinical audit staff and become involved in a wide range of statistical activities. The post will involve collaborative work with clinicians and others working in organ transplantation, blood donation and transfusion medicine and so the individual appointed will have excellent communication skills. The ability to work to deadlines, both individually and as part of a team, is essential and some knowledge of the SAS software is desirable.
