Dear LesleyPersonally speaking if I make a declaration on a form I will expect something to happen to that declaration other than merely being used as a statistic, so I would anticipate a letter outlining what might be available as a disabled member of staff and would appreciate this kind of information without obligation. However Helen's point is a good one and underlines the need for a clear 'steer' from the institution about how declarations will be used. I believe it is possible to do both by being clear from the outset what the purpose(s) of this kind of data collection is.In our Disclosure and Confidentiality Policy for students we make it clear how the information will be used, this gives anyone making a declaration an opportunity to make an informed decision about declaration.Hope this helps!Chris Baxter

If a person declares a disability on their starters form (for staff) or their admissions for (for students), can we use that information to target the relevant people with an email or other correspondence regarding things like student support plans, setting up of staff or student consultation groups, etc?
