Dear All I have recently come across a collection of O Henry stories (a mere 100 of the 475 that he apparently wrote) and have been struck by various aspects, ranging from the structure through to settings which include the military, the frontier and loafers which are reminiscent of Kipling. Does anyone know whether Kipling was an influence on him at all? (Or even vice versa?) I believe he is sometimes compared to Maupassant. Tim Connell PS The stories are very enjoyable! Well worth a (re-)visit. ____________________ Professor T J Connell DLitt FCIL Languages for the Professions City University Northampton Square London EC1V 0HB tel: +44 (0)207 040 8265 fax: +44 (0)207 040 8575 www.city.ac.uk/languages<http://www.city.ac.uk/languages>
