Robert Graves wrote somewhere that he had sometimes wondered when
putting the finishing touches on an agonizingly worked out poem
whether it might be improved by the insertion of a simple "not" at a
crucial point.  This suggests to me a more dynamic conception of form
than is usually assumed in discussions like the present.
