Checked he's not using cotton buds and he's not. Those things should be banned!
Just his GP trying to come up with an answer I think. Just wanted to check tho no-one was
aware of wax probs with muffs. Thanks,
Sue

I'd ask him is he cleaning his ears. If he is and is using cotton buds this may be part of the problem as he is then likely pushing the wax back in, adding cotton fibres causing it to "clump" and drying it out preventing the self cleaning process from working

If he needs to wear them to do his job then I would suggest talking to his GP as this may be a case of third party 'lost in translation'.  If they are causing a buildup behind the muff then he must be producing a lot of wax (just got a mental picture of Shrek pulling wax out of his ear).  I have heard so many tales over the years of why people can't wear hearing protection that I have to stop and think what is real.  Maybe the increased temperature stimulates extra production of wax but if is does so what. My recollection of A&P is the ear canal is shaped so the wax moves in an outward direction anyway so he may have to clean his ears more often or go into the candle business.

Just my penny's worth on a quiet Monday.

Subject: [OCC-HEALTH] Ear muffs

Hi folks,

Just a Monday morning query! I've an employee whose GP has told him that wearing ear muffs all day is causing his build up of wax.
He works in a noisy environment, and finds his muffs comfortable. Also changes the disposable covers every day.
I've explained to the gentleman that I've never heard of this, and that he probably just makes excess wax, but I would be interested if anyone has come across this before?
Thanks in anticipation
Sue
