medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture Learned members, I was wandering thought Wikipedia today and stumbled on what looks like an 18th-19th c. painting that portrays the bestowal of the Cistercian scapular on St. Stephen Harding by the BVM. But that scapular looks white to me, and I had always known that the Cistercian scapular was black.
