Hi Colin,

I don't know if the following would work, I'm sort of thinking it
through, but it seems to make sense as I write it:

1) Create a list of all bibs where an item is suppressed [file1]

2) Search that list for all bibs where an item is not suppressed
(so these are ones where not all items are suppressed) [file2]

3) Use global or rapid update on the bibs in [file2] to add some
sort of flag/unique piece of information you can pick out easily

4) Search [file 1] again and select all the bibs which do not have
the new flag you just added in step 3 [file 3]

5) The file you've just created [file 3] "should" only contain the
bibs that have all items suppressed

6) Then you would have to go back to [file 2] and remove the piece
of information you added in step 3 to correct those bib records.

You do need to make sure you pick something very unique in step 3 which
you can easily remove afterwards. Have a think and see if it makes
sense to you - also if anyone else spots a flaw in this please say so!
This is one of those tricky areas where you need to be sure you have the
logic right to cover your particular situation.

Hope that helps,

Diane

Subject: Create lists - ITEMS and BIBs.

Colleagues,

We are in the process of planning the final stages of planning to reduce
our collection to a temporary "Interim" collection while we are being
refurbished. Much of our stock will be moved to off-site storage.

We wish to remove from view all copies of items not available to users
and considering rescoping vs. suppression. The former has its own
issues, but in terms of suppression the only stumbling block is where
ALL copies of an item are being removed to store - we would then wish to
suppress the BIB rather than the item, but I cannot see a way of
selecting BIBs where ALL associated copies have the relevant
characteristic (i.e. either suppression code or a flag to indicate
off-site storage).

Selecting bibs where one item is suppressed/flagged, no problem, but how
do I select bibs where ALL copies are suppressed?

Colin.
