I think I have got Mr Blunkett’s idea. Tell me if I am wrong

Step 1: get rid of ID Cards.

Step 2: issue mandatory passports with Biometrics the form of a Card with chip carrying photo.

Step 3: Grow a database of biometrics (e.g. fingerprints, photos) linked to name and address

Step 4: Get people to carry passports internally in the UK (so that they can establish their ID when going to a GP or open a bank account)

Step 5: Tell the world that this Card that isn’t an ID Card?

Step 6: Wait for men in white coats....
