The standard reference for archaeological buidings survey is English Heritage's 2006 Understanding Historic Buildings - with examples of conventions in section 8. In addition, you might find the folowing useful: Andrews D, Blake B, Clowes M and Wilson K (1995) The Survey and Recording of Historic Buildings, (Oxford, Association of Archaeological Illustrators and Surveyors: Technical paper No.12 English Heritage (2000) The presentation of historic building survey in CAD Best wishes Kate Giles Course Director, Archaeology of Buildings http://www.york.ac.uk/depts/arch/gsp/publicity/builddet.htm University of York -----Original Message----- From: Discussion List for Contemporary and Historical Archaeology [mailto:[log in to unmask]] On Behalf Of Andrew Cochrane Sent: 15 April 2009 11:16 To: [log in to unmask] Subject: [CHA] Archaeological Drawings Hello all, Just a quick message to ask for some possible help please. I have just received an email from an Architecture student who is doing a project that includes archaeological style survey drawings - he sent me this: I've done a little research under the references you gave me last Friday. I picked up a book called 'Theatre/Archaeology' by Mike Shanks which is of some theoretical use and his work into 'deep mapping' sounds fascinating and certainly touching on my topic of research. However, i'm still struggling to find any visual representation of archaeological survey/mapping drawings which I might use as a crib. I'm looking for something along the lines of an autopsy drawing of an old patinated wall or element of urban fabric rather than a landscape survey. Something that breaks down into an archaeological kit-of-parts perhaps. I wondered if anyone might know off-hand something that might help him please? He is called Rob and his email is: [log in to unmask] Thank you - and hope you had a top Easter! -------------------------- contemp-hist-arch is a list for news and events in contemporary and historical archaeology, and for announcements relating to the CHAT conference group. ------- For email subscription options see: http://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/archives/contemp-hist-arch.html ------- Visit the CHAT website for more information and for future meeting dates: http://www.contemp-hist-arch.ac.uk -------------------------- -------------------------- contemp-hist-arch is a list for news and events in contemporary and historical archaeology, and for announcements relating to the CHAT conference group. ------- For email subscription options see: http://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/archives/contemp-hist-arch.html ------- Visit the CHAT website for more information and for future meeting dates: http://www.contemp-hist-arch.ac.uk --------------------------
