RESEARCH ASSOCIATE IN STATISTICAL EPIDEMIOLOGY/GENETICS

Applications are invited for a Research Associate to work in the Genetic Epidemiology of Complex Disease (GECD) research group at the Department of Public Health and Primary Care. As part of its work, the GECD research group focuses on genomic studies of diverse populations, including those from the Indian Subcontinent and Africa.

The successful candidate will be expected to address bioinformatics, statistical and programming needs related to the design and analysis of genomic epidemiological studies. Applicants should have numerate first degree (natural sciences, maths, statistics or computer science) and a postgraduate degree (Masters/PhD) in statistics, bioinformatics, computational biology or a related discipline, and comprehensive knowledge of relevant algorithms and software tools.

The successful candidate must have expertise in high throughput data manipulation, analysis and visualisation using relevant statistical packages and programming languages (Perl or C). It is also essential that the candidate has clear communication skills with the ability to present methodologies and results succinctly, the ability to work within a team, and to provide advice, training and support for researchers.

Experience of analysis and handling large data sets, including genomic data, and additional languages would be highly desirable. Familiarity with Linux network/server administration will be an advantage. Proficiency in the use of relational databases would also be desirable.
