As part of a scoping task for the Ministerial Metrics Technology Sub-group the NHS Information Centre for Health and Social Care (IC) and the NHS Purchasing and Supplies Agency (PASA) has been asked to get a picture of current availability of BNP across the NHS.

Brain Natriuretic Peptide (BNP or Pro-BNP) usage has been identified as an exemplar of an innovative diagnostic technology and potential measure of quality of service provision. This is widely recognised as a cross cutting technology of interest to laboratory medicine, cardiology and primary care. The overall aim is to find metrics of adoption of innovative technologies that will improve clinical service quality.

This preliminary survey is therefore designed to identify who is providing the test and in what volume. The survey has the full support of the Pathology team working within DH and of professional bodies including the RCPath.

Please take a few moments to fill in the short questionnaire which contains only 6 main questions. If you know of another clinician / laboratory scientist who could provide information please forward the email to them.

Many thanks
