PhD Fellowship to be held at University of Bergen, Norway in the field
of palaezoology/osteology.

Palaeozoology is one of the main research areas at the Natural History
Collections at the University of Bergen. The research is in particular
focusing on interpretation of the prehistoric environment, biodiversity
and humans in the prehistoric landscape. The research fellow will be
included in the Palaeoenvironmental Research Group.

Within osteology, the interaction between fauna and environment and
fauna history are the major areas of interest. The PhD fellow will use
bone samples collected at the Hardangervidda high mountain plateau as
basis for his/her research. In the interdisciplinary Hardangervidda

<http://bergenmuseum.uib.no/forskning/hardangervidda>  large samples of
reindeer bones from Iron Age and Medieval times have been excavated. By
means of these bone materials and metrical, molecular and ecological
methods, the research fellow will investigate the history of the
reindeer at Hardangervidda for the last 2000 years.

The appointment is in total four years, and 25% of the time will be
museum related work in the Natural History Collections. The successful
applicant will be admissible to the Ph.D. programme of the Department of
Biology, with an approved plan for doctoral studies with a time frame of
three years. Hence, applicants must meet the formal admission
requirements for the PhD programme at University of Bergen. Application
for admission to the PhD programme, incl. a project plan for the
training module, will be worked out in collaboration with the actual
supervisor/research group. The principal supervisor for the project must
be a scientist with a permanent position at the Natural History
Collections.
