Research Ethics 
Design & Delivery of Training in Research Ethics for Supervisors and
Research Managers 
Thursday 30th April

This workshop will review strategies and materials for the design and
delivery of training programmes in Research Ethics - aimed at PG
students, research supervisors and research managers. An update on
Research Council, NHS and related policies will cover Research Ethics
and Research Governance in Higher Education Institutions - together with
networking to share best practice on embedding Research Ethics. Case
studies will be discussed to illustrate issues including IPR, the ethics
of survey design and delivery, ethical issues in clinical research and
the implementation of "whistle-blowing" policies in order to protect the
"whistle-blower".The need to reflect differing ethical perspectives and
best practice when developing Research Ethics training programmes will
form an essential part of the workshop.
 
This workshop has been designed for professionals who are managing,
supporting or supervising PG research students including Graduate Deans,
PG Research Supervisors, Research Managers, Administrative and Staff
Development personnel.
 
 
Challenges in Postgraduate Recruitment

This workshop will examine some of the current issues currently
affecting HEIs in the recruitment of PGT & PGR students, including both
home and international students.  Topics covered will include: the
impact of under-graduate top-up fees on students continuing to
postgraduate study; recruiting postgraduate students who are returning
to education; the impact of the 'credit-crunch' on recruitment;
assessing the advantages and disadvantages of online marketing and
recruitment; the impact of the new-points based immigration system on
the recruitment of international students and a look at the current
issues in the international market.
 
In addition to a series of presentations, delegates will also have the
opportunity to discuss the issues with colleagues from other
institutions in order to understand and develop good-practice within the
sector. This workshop will be of interest to professionals who have an
interest in recruiting postgraduate students including: graduate deans,
heads of graduate schools and administrators; as well as marketing,
recruitment and admissions staff.
