Mersey View pleasure grounds The crag walk and the long skirts with vertigo, they hang over the edge or press too close to their escorts. It is not what I expected. The train ride from Lime Street and a change, traps were available from the station but we climbed. We were dressed for it. And now every device for giddiness greets us. A fair up here on the viewpoint: swing boats where one can tumble against each other mirrors that distort shapes, shooting, fortunes told, the grass pressed and hot after a whole summer of this. Nowhere to breathe so we walk the rocks to look back up to estuary and home.
