Mae CyMAL yn gweithio ar ffordd newydd ag arloesol o gynnig mynediad ar-lein i dreftadaeth Cymru. Fe fydd Casgliad y Bobl yn cyflawni ymrwymiad Cymru'n Un o ddatblygu casgliad Hanes y Bobl Cymru gyfan. I gychwyn, casgliadau'r Amgueddfa Genedlaethol, Llyfrgell Genedlaethol a Chomisiwn Brenhinol Henebion Cymru fydd sylfaen cynnwys y safle. Y bwriad yn y pen draw fydd i bobl fedru ychwanegu eu cynnwys eu hun.

Mae pum thema ddechreuol wedi eu dewis:

- Hanes cymdeithasol ieithoedd Cymru: archwilio hanes unigryw'r ddwy iaith genedlaethol ynghyd ag ieithoedd eraill cymunedau yng Nghymru
- Sut mae merched a dynion wedi cyfrannu at hanes a diwylliant Cymru yn y cartref a'r gweithle
- Sut mae chwaraeon a hamddena wedi ffurfio diwylliant a chymdeithas Cymru
- Lleisiau gwahanol: sut mae allfudo, mewnfudo ac ymfudo wedi ffurfio'r genedl

Yn y cyfnod cynnar hwn, rydym yn gofyn ichi sut hoffech weld y safle'n datblygu a sut y gallai'ch helpu i gofnodi eich hanes.

Mae CyMAL hefyd yn datblygu Strategaeth Amgueddfeydd i Gymru, i nodi sut y gall amgueddfeydd yng Nghymru wella eu gwasanaeth i ddefnyddwyr ac ennyn diddordeb y rhai nad ydynt yn defnyddio amgueddfeydd neu sy'n eu gweld yn amherthnasol. Peer Review results for DCMS museums are published
The results of a pilot programme to introduce a new system of self-assessment and peer review for directly sponsored museums have been published by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport. The pilots were carried out at the National Portrait Gallery, Natural History Museum and Tyne & Wear Museums. Each museum was asked to detail its vision, its successes and its challenges. In each case the peer review was then conducted by a panel of three individuals, from both the UK and abroad and from a range of professional backgrounds. The peer reviews took place over three days and the panel reports include a critique of the self-assessment, an over-arching appraisal of the excellence across the museums functions and a set of recommendations for each museum to consider. Each museum was also asked to provide a management response to the peer review.

Culture Minister defers export of Iron Age Celtic mirror
Culture Minister, Barbara Follett, has placed a temporary export bar on a rare Iron Age Celtic mirror and two associated brooches. The Minister's ruling follows a recommendation by the Reviewing Committee on the Export of Works of Art and Objects of Cultural Interest, administered by the Museums, Libraries and Archives Council (MLA). The Committee recommended that the export decision be deferred on the grounds that the mirror is closely connected with our history and national life and that it is of outstanding significance for the study of Celtic art and the Iron Age archaeology of Kent.

CYMDEITHAS YR AMGUEDDFEYDD

Welsh language code of ethics now available
The Museums Association has published a Welsh language version of its code of ethics, which has been updated to include changes to rules regarding disposal, as voted for by the Museums Association's members. This translation recognises Welsh speakers as part of the wider museum community. The documents will also be valuable for the many museum workers in Wales who are learning Welsh, providing them with essential vocabulary for working with Welsh speaking communities.

Arguing the case for the importance of museums
The Museums Association's New Agendas one day conference later this month will better prepare our members to argue the case for the importance of museums at local policy level, said MA president Stuart Davies. The one day conference looks at a number of issues for local authority museums, such as how to boost the profile of the museum within the local authority, how to respond to the improvement agenda, and whether trust status is a viable option for your museum. HYFFORDDIANT A CHYNHADLEDDAU

Open up: stored collections as a public resource - 22 July, London
Approximately 90 per cent of UK museum collections are held in store: does this mean that they are underused? This conference looks at how museums can use collections that remain in store in the most creative and sustainable ways and how they can treat them as an opportunity rather than a challenge, as assets rather than stock. This conference is relevant for those thinking about the development of their collections, viewing collections and access together. It explores ways of getting people in to stored collections, not just getting collections out.

NEWYDDION - RHYNGWLADOL

Iraq's National Museum reopened
Iraq's National Museum has reopened nearly six years after it was looted and vandalised in the aftermath of the 2003 US-led invasion. Thousands of its antiquities were stolen at that time, and only about a quarter have since been retrieved. Coalition forces had no orders to intervene, and stood by as Iraq's priceless heritage was pillaged. Many of the nation's treasures were in the museum, and analysts decried its looting as scandalous.
Prime Minister Nouri Maliki was at the opening ceremony inside the museum, and described what had happened there as Iraq's "dark age".
