Dear Colleagues,

The NES Information Literacy Framework is currently undergoing its final revision and we'd be interested in having your comments and suggestions on it.

The background is that the Scottish Government strategy Better health, Better care emphasises the need for an information literate, knowledge competent population in order to meet its aspiration for a healthier Scotland. The NES Knowledge Services Group Enabling Partnerships strategy and action plan sets out systems and processes to support the use of knowledge and learning to help create a mutual NHS. One of these products, intended to facilitate the acquisition of vital skills and develop confidence and efficiency in information use, is the Information Literacy Framework, Better informed for better health and better care : A framework to support improved information use for staff and patients.

The Framework has now been divided into a series of eight A5 size booklets (available at http://www.infoliteracy.scot.nhs.uk/information-literacy-framework.aspx). Each booklet is relevant to a specific information area or interest group (list attached). As it is now intended to print the booklets series - if there is support for this - we'd like to be as sure as we can that the scenarios are realistic and that the actors in them are consulting sources which would be readily recognised by people working in that particular context.

We're also interested in your responses to the following seven questions, although these are not intended to limit your observations in any way.

1. If you were to use the Framework to support a particular group (or individual) who would that group be? (For example, patients, a specific staff group, carers, voluntary workers, healthcare practitioners?) Please be as specific as possible

2. How would you use the Framework to provide this support?

3. In which part(s) of the information literacy cycle does the group need support?

4. What benefits do you see resulting from the support provided :

	For the individual?
	For the group? (if relevant)
	For the organisation?(if relevant)

5. Are other resources needed?

6. Are there other associated tools and resources you would like to see developed by Knowledge Services Group?

7. If the Framework booklets were available in printed form, how would you see these being used? Who would use them?

I look forward to hearing from you.

Best wishes,

Eilean
