italian-studies: Scholarly discussions in any field of Italian studies

Dear Colleagues,

I have three calls for papers for the Renaissance Studies of America in
Venice in April 2010 (more information on the rsa.org web site).

The deadline to submit a proposal is May 3rd, 2009. I am attaching the first
one below and will be sending two separate emails. Please feel free to
circulate them in your mailing lists.

I hope to see some of you in Venice next year.

Papers are sought that address the topics of utopia, imaginary cities,
pre-planned cities and other imaginary places in the Renaissance. These
spaces can be physical, mental, political, cultural and spiritual.

Possible topics might include, but not be limited to:

City as a representation of the universe
City limits and urban development
City of God and City of Man

Antonfrancesco Doni
Mambrino Roseo

History of Renaissance Utopia
Ideal constructions of the city
Laudatio Urbis
Ideal Representations of Venice

Land of Cockaigne

Utopia and art
Utopia and literature
Utopia and politics
Utopia and theory
Utopian communities


Please submit a 150-word abstract for a 20-minute paper, plus a one-page CV.
Submissions will only be accepted if pasted in the body of an email message
(regretfully, no attachment will be opened). Please include your email
address and institutional contact information and send the proposal to the
organizer Cristina Perissinotto, [log in to unmask], with the subject line
"Venice RSA", by May 3rd.

If you need audiovisual equipment, please indicate your requirements in your
submission.
