Hello again, Having talked to our FLO she made two points which were in the previously sent PAS Statement: 1. Not enough finders wanted to share their data with the PAS (which makes sense, otherwise why would they be recording on another database in the first place). 2. PAS didn't want data that was lower standard than they'd ideally like - grid refs etc. Okay, it might not always be great on PAS but the FLOs are encouraging people to do it better. It's not a database of 'finds' that are there for the sake of being pretty objects, it's an archaeological resource. It seems that approaching HERs directly is not going to make anyone happy - it's playing some sort of political game. We have the same problems with the data that PAS did. And if finders aren't happy to share with PAS then why would they be happy to share with the HER? Ideally their data should go to PAS and then we wouldn't have problems with duplicates and would be able to import the UKDFD records when we import the PAS ones. Really we all need to work together - it's ridiculous to expend more time and effort on this than we need to. It's taken years to sort out a way to import the PAS data. It's not just a case of importing a bunch of finds, after all. I guess we need some sort of consensus over whether we should import this data or not. Who'd get the final say about it? English Heritage?
