Did you try reducing the FOV to only
include the brain regions? The out of memory error means you are unable to
allocate enough memory to FAST. You can either switch to 64bit where you will
be able to allocate as much RAM as you want, or need to reduce the amount of
RAM that you need. Reducing the FOV is one option for doing this.
Peace,
Matt.

Subject: Re: [FSL] FAST - Out of
Memory Error
Hi Matt,
I have 4GB alloted to my virtual machine (32 bit). But I am still getting the
out of memory error when I run the 512x512x110 image and use the apriori maps
in FAST4. However the program is running without error if I donot use the
'apriori maps' option.
Does this new information change anything? Is it a different problem or is it
still a problem with the 32 bit virtual machine? Do I have no other option but
to switch to a 64 bit Linux OS (I am hoping I dont have to) ?
Thanks,
Jayanth.

Perhaps reducing the image FOV would help (crop the extra
empty space around the image), however you are going to be very limited with
the 32bit virtual machine (and I am not aware of a 64-bit version). You
should make sure that your virtual machine has access to at least 3GB of the
system RAM (you will only be able to allocate 2GB to any given process at
32bit, but the extra 1GB can be allocated to system processes. For any
kind of intensive FSL processing it is certainly better to run FSL in an operating
system in which it can run natively, for example 64bit Linux or Mac. I
recommend Ubuntu if you decide to go the Linux route.
Peace,
Matt.

Hi Rolf,
Yes. I
have betted the images and the bet results are accurate.
Thanks,
Jayanth

Hi

Not sure about your architecture, but I have seen this error with
problematic data sets. Is your image brain-extracted?
