According to EDD s.v. ELDIN(G, elding is "Firing or fuel of any kind,
esp. peat, turfs, sticks, brushwood" and is recorded in Sc. Nhb. Dur.
Cum. Wm. Yks. Lan. Lin.

An Elding Wood is recorded in Suffolk in the 18th century, which is
probably unrelated. But has anybody noted Elding in the EDD sense
further south than Lincolnshire?
