I'm not too sure, as I was only a little girl, and I'm remembering back 
many, many years - in fact, more than I really want to remember! She 
probably meant any scallop shaped shellfish.

Did she mean any scallop, or only the "queen scallop" (Aequipecten
opercularis), as distinct from the great scallop (Pecten maximus)?
