Working with community based partners to provide accessible routes into
higher education
The Open University, London Regional Centre,

The seminar draws out some of the features of a curriculum and the model
of delivery that can give access and support to students from
disadvantaged communities who are new to higher education.
The seminar explores strategies to overcome barriers encountered by
students. The 'Openings' programme short courses will be used as a case
study of curriculum design which integrates study skills development and
curriculum content. A second case study will look at delivery models
used in London in partnership with extended schools and children's
services.
Practitioners and academics will have the opportunity to share and
develop good practice in supporting the recruitment, retention and
achievement of students from disadvantaged communities.

Chris Baker (Director, Centre for Widening
Participation OU),
Denise Bates (Assistant Director OU London) and
Cheryl Lim (Project Officer WP London).
