coda symposium

Efficiency & Expression: Music, Languages, Code, Interaction

Saturday 28 March 2009
10.30 to 16.00
1N05 Lecture Theatre, Frenchay Campus

Admission is free and lunch will be provided but please register your interest at http://www.uwe.ac.uk/bit/mt.

Throughout the day a range of speakers will present their work — both technical and creative — with a view to raising some important questions.  Towards the end of the day there will be an opportunity to discuss any ideas raised with the day's speakers. In addition to these activities there will be opportunities, at various points during the day, to experience and interact with some of the software, systems and creative work presented.

The themes of "efficiency" and "expression" will be explored by the speakers through a range of topics:

_ live audiovisual feedback

_ audiovisual concatenative synthesis

_ computer representations of music

_ computer music languages and libraries

_ expressive and efficient user interface design

_ the relationship between the "instrument" and technology

_ optimising DSP code for expressive ends

Invited speakers include:

Nick Collins ... http://www.informatics.sussex.ac.uk/users/nc81/

John Dack ... http://www.sonic.mdx.ac.uk/staff/john.html

Jamie Bullock ... http://www.jamiebullock.com

Alex Harker ... http://www-users.york.ac.uk/~ajh508/

Best wishes,

Martin
