PS -- i was suggesting that _mainstream culture_ (the term is hugely problematic) in Britain doesn't suck as much as it might in the US. not sure why this has morphed into a Brit vs. Am conversation. not a flag waver.

PS -- Pacifica radio is not BBC. that's sort of like your NBC, CBS, ABC, no? surely no equivalent, but... but not _that_ maintstream.

I got thru the broadcast today -- good radio listening, but the peasant poetry stuff to me seemed laid on a bit thick. Americans can't see why having parents who went to college means you're no longer an "ordinary person." And Ginsberg didn't live there, did he? It prompted me to get out of the box my copy of _High on the Walls: An Anthology Celebrating Twenty-Five Years of Poetry Readings at Morden Tower_. Americans who are astonished at having the likes of Bunting, etc. on the radio will really be dumbfounded to find that this anthology was edited by Gordon Brown!
Radio stations affiliate with Pacifica in the US sometimes do good local poetry programs. My own
is WRIR, which also broadcasts on-line. A fine jazz program Sunday mornings, Easter Standard time. http://www.wrir.org/
