UK Parliament website: Specification for historical research and web content creation 
Closing date for applications: 3rd April 2009

Requirement: 
Experienced historical researchers who can demonstrate track record in writing for the web, to work on a freelance basis to create content for a new area of the UK Parliament website focused on extending the range of historical information on the website. Successful applicants will not be required to work full-time at Parliament's offices but will need to come in on a frequent basis to attend meetings and to undertake some of the required research work. There are three separate work streams that each need one researcher/writer. These are detailed below. 

Work stream 1 - Ref: LH Communities 
Deliverables: 
a) Adapt and split out provided research material into 10 website segments and undertake minimal additional historical research, copywriting and picture research as necessary. 
b) Provide approximately 20 web pages for each web segment. Each page should have a word count of 150-350 words broken into 2-5 paragraphs. 
c) Amend all segments as necessary following review from stakeholders and experts around Parliament. 
d) Provide teaser text for each page to be displayed on listing pages. Each teaser should have a word count of about 20 words. 
e) Provide strand level teaser text that applies to groups of 2-4 segments. Grouping of segments will be given on briefing. 
Aim of web segments: 
To highlight 
a) ways in which the interaction between People and Parliament over recent centuries has brought about positive change in society throughout the UK 
b) ways in which people have and can get involved in the political process 
c) key Parliamentary archival documents, Acts of Parliament for each subject area. 
Web segment subjects: 
Reforming society in the 19th century 
Going to school 
The industrial revolution Industrial interests 
Import and Export 
Going to court 
Police, prisons and penal reform 
Taxation 
Love and marriage 
Roads and railways 
Canals, rivers and bridges 

Workstream 2 - Ref: LH Evolution 
Deliverables: 
a) Historical research, copywriting and minimal picture research for 5 website segments. 
b) Provide approximately 20 web pages for each web segment. Each page should have a word count of 150-350 words broken into 2-5 paragraphs. 
c) Amend all segments as necessary following review from stakeholders and experts around Parliament.

The Glorious Revolution 
The Parliament Acts and the role of the Lords 
Judicial role

b) Provide approximately 20 web pages for each web segment. Each page should have a word count of 150-350 words broken into 2-5 paragraphs. 
c) Amend all segments as necessary following review from stakeholders and experts around Parliament.

Additional information for all 3 work streams 
Guide budget per work stream: £5-7.5k on delivery of the completed web segments (no extra expenses paid) 

Planned schedule: 
6th April: By end of day potential interviewees will be informed of time slot for 8th April. 
8th April: Interview at Parliament (please state in your application your preference for AM/PM) 
10th April: Successful applicants will be informed. 
Mid - end April: Work starts with staged deliveries of completed segments throughout May. 
29th May: Delivery of all segments (including requested amends) by end of May 2009.
