Apologies for cross-posting. A new listserve has been set up for archivists in the higher education sector. It is intended primarily for archivists who have responsibility for the institutional archives of their university. Its purpose is to facilitate the exchange of information about managing such archives, and to encourage the promotion of these collections as teaching and research resources. The creation of this list follows a meeting of university archivists held at the University of Manchester in November 2008, which agreed to develop a forum to promote this type of archive collection. A further meeting of the group will be held at Cambridge in May 2009. To join the HE archivists list, go to http://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/HEARCHIVISTS, and select "join or leave list". I would stress that the list will deal with matters relating to the institutional archives of universities, related archives of university staff/student groups and personal papers of academic staff, rather than with the broader range of archive and manuscript collections typically found within university special collections departments. If you require further information about the list or related matters, please get in touch with me.
