COMING SOON:

Three posts will soon be advertised for Research Fellows at the MRC
Midland Hub for Trials Methodology Research

The Midland Hub for Trials Methodology Research based at the University
of Birmingham is one of a national network of seven hubs funded as an
exciting new initiative by the Medical Research Council. As a centre of
excellence for trials methodology research, we provide local and
national researchers undertaking trials with innovative methodology for
design, conduct and analysis, thereby improving the quality of trials
and ultimately patient care.

The Midland Hub has funding for three Research Fellows to start in mid
2009 at the University of Birmingham. The Research Fellows will work on
projects from within the Hub's research programme and in response to
queries raised by the trials community. They will review and develop
areas of trials methodology, disseminating best practice through
publications and presentations. They will contribute to an advice
facility for trial practitioners and a training programme in trials
methodology.

Research Fellows will have the opportunity to work with Hub
Investigators from across the University who are leading experts in
trials methodology. They will collaborate with the five PhD students
funded by the Hub and other researchers across the region and the
national network of Hubs.

The specialist methodological areas of the Midland Hub include:

1. Quality of life evaluation for clinical and health economic
assessment

2. Discovery and evaluation of diagnostic, prognostic and predictive
biomarkers

3. Methods to obtain reliable conclusions and involve users

4. Bayesian methods in design and analysis of trials

5. Use of web-based systems and electronic health records in clinical
trials

6. Systematic reviews for clinical and health economic evaluation

7. Education in trials methodology

We will be seeking applications from individuals who have a background
in trials methodology, medical statistics, health care evaluation or
other relevant area. We would be happy to consider the part-time or
full-time secondment of researchers working within Clinical Trials
Units.
