UCL RESEARCH DEPARTMENT OF EPIDEMIOLOGY AND PUBLIC HEALTH DIVISION OF POPULATION HEALTH STATISTICIAN/ANALYST CARDIOVASCULAR GENETICS/GENETIC EPIDEMIOLOGY (Ref 408) Applications are sought for an experienced statistician to work as a Research Associate in the Genetic Epidemiology Group (Division of Population Health) and the Centre for Cardiovascular Genetics (Division of Medicine). Interest or experience in statistical genetics/genetic epidemiology would be an advantage but is not required. The successful candidate will provide consultation to other researchers during all stages of the research process from study design to statistical analysis, and he/she will be encouraged to develop and lead projects of their own. The main focus of the work will be the genetic architecture of lipid and other cardiometabolic traits and will include work using the Mendelian randomisation paradigm. The successful applicant will have: experience of providing statistical support in an academic setting; peer-reviewed publications; and the ability to work independently and take a lead in statistical aspects of research project design, analysis and publication. Familiarity with statistical analyses relevant to genetic epidemiology is desirable. An accomplished communicator, the person appointed must be able to convey complex statistical ideas with ease from a number of platforms, will attend and deliver seminars, offer support and training to colleagues, and be able to work effectively in an inter- disciplinary, inter-institutional team. A BSc/BA, MSc in statistics, biostatistics or equivalent disciplines, and detailed knowledge of appropriate statistical techniques are all essential. A PhD or equivalent experience is desirable. The post is underpinned by funding from the British Heart Foundation and is for 5 years in the first instance. Salary: UCL Grade 7 (£31,620 - £38,250 pa inclusive). The expectation is that appointment would be in the range £31,620 - £33,376 pa inclusive, although consideration will be given for appointment to the top of the range for exceptional candidates.
