Dear
group
I wish to use this list serve to bring to every ones attention a paper
just published by Dr.George Schwartz. Dr. Schwartz published in the Journal of
American Society of Nephrology an excellent paper describing an update to “Schwartz
Equation” used to estimate pediatric GFR.
Of note:
The equation uses creatinine as measured with an enzymatic method.
The enzymatic method used is traceable to the new IDMS reference method
procedure.
The updated equation was not validated for use with Jaffe based
creatinine.
As these equations are used for pharmacy dosing, it is so important that
laboratories and pharmacies communicate with one another regarding how the
creatinine assay is referenced (ie non IDMS or IDMS traceable) as well as the GFR
equation is use (is the equation based on IDMS creatinine).
The paper reference is

I
hope this is an appropriate use of this listserve.
