Helen

There have been literature reports that elevated ferritin is an additional risk factor is patients at risk for type 2 DM. The higher the ferritin the higher the risk.

I hope this is of some help

Subject:	Type 2 DM & ferritin

Dear List Members,

I've had a query from a colleague regarding the indications for assaying ferritin in type 2 diabetics.

Is anyone aware of the need to do this?

Does it have any additional significance in T2DM that is not applicable to the non-diabetic population, other than looking for haemochromatosis as a cause of type 2 DM?

Thanks for your help.

Helen Smith
