Dear colleagues,

Academics are invited to collaborate with BBC production staff to consider the future of interactive media.

As part of an AHRC and BBC co-funded knowledge exchange project we have
pleasure in inviting you to one of two creative workshops for two groups
of 20-30 academics and BBC staff which aim to 'invent and imagine'
public service virtual environments. This is a unique opportunity to
meet – and work alongside – senior production staff at the BBC who are
interested in virtual environments, 3D media and gaming. It is not
often such groups meet; this will be one of the first workshops to
place production staff and academics together in a creative situation.

Over three hours several 'kits of parts' will be produced through
drawing, model-making and discussion. Each of the resulting virtual
environments - it is hoped - might appeal to a wide range of BBC
audiences and fulfil the BBC's public service purposes in new and
interesting ways.

The day will also introduce 'Beebac', a new online network for
academics and BBC staff which will foster future collaborative
endeavours.

The workshops will be held in London at BBC Television Centre, Wood
Lane, London, W12 7RJ, on Thursday 5th March between 3pm - 6.00 pm, in
Room B551 (a basement room).

AND

At BBC Manchester, on Friday 6th March between 9.30-12.30pm, in The Courtyard, Oldham Road, Manchester, M60, 1SJ.

Hospitality will be provided.

The work produced at the workshop will be organised, designed, and
subsequently presented to developers in Future Media and Technology in
April with the hope that one or two of the ideas will be taken forward
for prototyping.

Please RSVP to me, please: [log in to unmask], or phone if you have any questions - mobile: 0780.872.514.

We hope to see you there.

With best wishes,

Lizzie
