ATRiuM, University of Glamorgan, Cardiff, April 3rd 2009
From Coal House to Dr Who, South Wales has played host to a range of quality television of late, and this one-day Symposium turns due attention to the BBC’s BAFTA Award winning sitcom Gavin and Stacey.
The organisers are pleased to welcome both Andy Medhurst (author of A National Joke: Popular Comedy and English Cultural Identities) and Brett Mills (author of Television Sitcom) to the Symposium, and are delighted that Welsh media journal Cyfrwng will be hosting the closing event.
Papers are invited on, though not restricted to, Gavin and Stacey and the following topics:
Humour and the Celtic nations
Welsh identity and the sitcom
Regionality and the sitcom
The contemporary sitcom form
Representations of gender
The deadline for 500 word proposals is Friday 13th February 2009.
