Increasingly, line managers are expected to carry out performance reviews of their staff. Effective performance reviews can lead to motivated staff and improved performance. Poor reviews have a negative effect and can lead to demotivated and unhappy teams. This course will give you the tools you need to carry out an effective review. The course takes a competency based approach to managing staff performance. The day will cover:

- Performance management and the review process - The Big Picture

- Understanding the competency approach: HAY evaluation criteria, HERA elements, Performance Criteria elements

- Planning and preparation: Everything the reviewer needs to think about before, during and after the meeting; Everything the member of staff needs to prepare for their review meeting

- Setting SMART objective to fit in with Organisational goals

- Excellent tips and tools to ensure your reviews run smoothly and are effective

- Making your review sessions motivational and focusing on the future performance of the member of staff

- Understanding and using the skills of a good reviewer: Effective question structure; The funnel technique; SOARRR model

- Handling difficult situations and types of people.

 

On completing this course, you will be better equipped to:

- motivate individuals to improve performance

- deal with potential problem people and situations through effective reviews

- enable your department to meet organisational goals
