The client is a World Class multi-discipline engineering consultancy who can offer an upcoming GIS professional a truly varied and absorbing job role that draws on every facet of geospatial data engineering.  Your remit will be to perform various GIS data capture, translation, cleansing, loading, spatial analysis, reporting and visualisation tasks on environmental and water engineering-related projects. 

Typically your duties will involve:

 

  • Carrying out flood damage cost assessment work on environmental-based projects, including creating GIS databases to hold property damage, economic and physical attribute data.
  • Processing DTM and flooding depth data to determine property flooding depths.
  • Calculating flood damage costs.
  • Running various flooding scenarios through the economic process to assess overall average damage costs versus mitigation costs. 
  • Developing improved methods of working using knowledge of business process and the GIS software packages that are available
  • Promoting and championing GIS best practice internal and externally via presentations and early consultation on projects.

 

Academic and professional qualifications:

  • GIS, engineering, environmental or geography based degree

Background and experience:

  • Experience of applying GIS to real world situations
  • ArcGIS (preferred) or MapInfo GIS software
  • Data modelling experience
  • Previous work in UK environment sector or water industry.
 Knowledge base:
  • Ordnance survey national datasets and their application.

 Skills:

  • Ability to produce high quality mapping for internal and external clients
  • Relational database skills
  • Use of digital terrain models
  • Good understanding of GIS theory
  • Good technical writing ability
  • Good general communication skills
  • GIS Macro/Script/programming experience.

  • Good problem solving/analytical skills
  • Ability to operate independently with little supervision
  • Flexibility and willingness to learn
  • Good team player
  • UK driving licence
