GIS Sales & Marketing Consultant

Ref: 835

Location: London

Salary: Basic Salary to £35,000 plus Bonus

My client, a market leading company within their respected field, is seeking a GIS Sales & Marketing Consultant to join their team. The company is part way through a successful period of growth based mainly upon the development of a new generation of map-based systems, which are being widely accepted as the best on the market.

The company is highly responsive to the needs of its clients and exists only to supply software that is demonstrably beneficial to their operations. Its systems include ideas and enhancements suggested by end users and regular updates are issued providing these new features and other changing requirements. The company regards a software sale as only the start of a business relationship, and provides a highly regarded and well received support service in addition to offering an extensive range of training options.

The company currently employs a team of 14 staff based in modern offices close to a bustling cosmopolitan area. The company maintains a high profile in their field by means of exhibition stands, involvement in seminars and training, and advertising.

With a strategy of continued growth and continued market dominance they are now looking to further strengthen their sales division.

This position is a combination of the management of existing customer accounts and the acquisition of new ones. Business is predominantly within the public sector, notably local authorities & police forces, and some work is undertaken with the private sector. Success in the past has been achieved through a consultative approach where input into customer strategy is key to the sale. The incoming candidate should have a similar style.

Duties will include client building by generating leads and following them up, undertaking promotional activity and monitoring the results. These activities will include organising stands at trade exhibitions, despatching mail shots and assisting with the preparation of articles for trade magazines. There will the need to keep in regular contact with existing and prospective customers by telephone and email, but no 'cold calling'. To succeed you will be diligent and methodical, motivated by customer satisfaction, be a natural client builder with excellent face to face presentational skills, and have previous successful public sector or business interface experience.

Travel within the UK to clients' premises, user group venues, exhibitions and seminars will be an essential part of the job. You will report to the Director of Finance and Operations.

The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of GIS preferably with a degree in GIS. It would be advantageous to have experience of working in a local government environment and previous sales roles.

The starting salary is likely to be in the range £29,000 to £35,000, depending upon previous experience. It will be reviewed annually to reflect individual performance and increasing experience. Five weeks' holiday, life insurance, a contributory pension scheme, and subsidised permanent health insurance are included in the package. After 5 months' service, a bonus related to the performance of the company is payable twice per year. Though not guaranteed, this has been typically worth 8% of salary, rising to 10% of salary after 3 service years and 13% after 5 years.

Every opportunity will be given to the post holder to acquire increasing experience and new skills on a varied range of tasks. Internal or external training will be available to facilitate this. Opportunities will then arise for the post holder to be promoted within the company.

Staff work a 37.5 hour week, generally either 09.00 to 17.30 or 09.30 to 18.00 each weekday (excluding bank holidays). Overtime is not normally payable, although time off in lieu is allowed when travelling has significantly extended the working day.

The company places an importance on the value of their staff and wish to provide them with every possibility to develop and grow. The person appointed will therefore have the chance to participate in future plans and will be actively encouraged to play an increasingly important role in them. Opportunities exist for staff to progress to all levels within the company. Flexibility is provided to make full use of individual skills, aptitudes and interests.
