Dear friends and colleagues,

You may know about the situation of French universities and research sectors, which are being destroyed by the "counter-reforms" proposed by President Sarkozy.

Your support is welcome!

We are now engaging ourselves into the second month of an active strike, where classes are not given, or given in public spaces in  order to inform the people about what is going on, programmes are  changed and the normal content replaced by analysis of the situation  to have a better understanding of  all the implications.

87 universities are on strike, CNRS labs are on strike, teachers and professors who never experienced what a strike could be, are now in the streets claiming for a just consideration after President Sarkozy insult them publicly. Sarkozy wants to pursue with the "rupture". The Parliament's majority is right-wing, at the hand of President: no control is made.

National demonstrations in the streets of Paris and the major cities in the regions, are bigger and bigger, exasperation is growing. Government pushes universities to privatization, give their building to private hands, refuse the principle of an independent science and act with no consideration of what a democratic consultation and the respect of democracy mean. The proposed reforms are destroying our modes of collaboration which are unique forms to produce knowledge.

Instead is proposed benchmarking, management, evaluation for reorientation of money to sectors where sit the friends of the president.
