CALL FOR PAPERS Representations of Diversity: Racism and the Media in Italy The American University of Rome's Center for Research on Racism in Italy will hold its second one-day conference on April 3, 2009 on the topic of representations of minorities and migrants in the Italian mass media. The conference will address the issue of racism in all forms of Italian media, past and present, including the internet and advertising. It will also examine the development of media created by and for minorities and migrants in Italy and other forms of positive representations. Key questions for discussion will include whether there is an adequate legal and institutional framework for combating racism in the media. Papers addressing the media representation of racism in the past are also invited. In addition to the scholarly presentations, journalists, INGO representatives and civil society activists will be invited to contribute their perspectives. The conference will be held in English.
