Dear Colleagues,

Here is the latest news - all from the US this week. There is conference information and a university museum selling its collection. There have been many messages about the death of Judith Hoffberg in the past couple of weeks. I have not included them all, especially as the official message was circulated to the list by Vanessa Crane. However, I have stuck in a couple of messages that contain links to articles and/or obituaries that remember her enormous contribution to art librarianship.

Best wishes,
Erica Foden-Lenahan

[ARLIS-L] Celebration of Judith Hoffberg's Life--Feb.8

Saturday, 31 January, 2009 1:06:02

Amy Ciccone <[log in to unmask]>

Dear Colleagues,

You are warmly invited to attend the celebration of Judy Hoffberg's life on Sunday, Feb. 8, 2009 at 11 am, at the art gallery Track 16 in Santa Monica's Bergamot Station  (directions at http://www.track16.com./contact.php)

Three to four members of ARLIS will speak at the service.

An artist's book will be created in her memory, and deposited with her papers at the University of California, Santa Barbara.  If you are interested in creating a page, please use 8-1/2 x 11" paper.  Let your inspiration be Judy's perpetual curiosity about anything to do with libraries, books, and all kinds of art. The deadline is July 31, 2009.

There was a very nice obituary in Wednesday's Los Angeles Times:  http://www.latimes.com/news/obituaries/la-me-judithhoffberg28-2009jan28,0,5648915.story

A memorial fund, the proceeds of which will be donated to support either the Artists' Book Collection at University of California, Santa Barbara, or Judy's Umbrelliana collection at University of California, San Diego, is being established.

Judy will also be commemorated at the ARLIS/NA conference in Indianapolis.

Please forward to anyone who may be interested.

We hope you will be able to attend.

Amy Ciccone
