Dear All,

A Friday afternoon topic...

I have found another turkey bone in a 16th century pit fill in central
Norwich and was reading about turkeys being driven to London on foot and
'to save their feet they were made little leather boots'.

Does anyone know:
1. when this practice of footwear for turkeys began?
2. are there any images of these boots available?
3. did the birds have them individually made? If not them surely it
would hurt their poor little feet even more if they were waddling off
down to London in ill-fitting shoes?!

This and any other information greatly appreciated by myself and my
highly amused colleagues....

With best wishes, Julie
