Dear Adam, I wrote an article some years ago about this topic. F.J. Dirrigl Jr., R.E. Dubos, and P.E. Rusch. An alternative method for preparing skeletons of fluid-fixed specimens using dermestid beetles. Herpetological Review 24(3):93-94, 1993. I have attached a copy of it. (Unfortunately the copy is a tiff file and not pdf because my HP6480 printer is terrible at scanning).
