Intel has pioneered the use of social science in the technology/innovation space - this position offers the opportunity to gain some exposure and experience to this field. Intel's Digital Health Group (see http://www.intel.com/healthcare/) is currently working to develop technology platforms than enable transformations in the way that health and social care is experienced and configured. Currently areas of interest include chronic disease management, and independent living / ageing populations. To date, interns in this group have encountered a wide range of the teams' overall work. Projects involve a differing degree of design, engineering, social science or business focus but interns are guaranteed to encounter a mix of disciplines, a range of project sizes and types and to see a lot of variety. There is the real opportunity of putting social science theory and enquiry into application. Our aim with internships is to give the student a central position in a project - this allows them to learn from how we do things, but gives them the opportunity to share their skills and experiences with colleagues. Internships are paid positions. In 2009, we are embarking on research in several European countries, focusing on care pathways for older people and those with chronic disease.
