I forgot to say that the first aider’s are taught the following
in terms of recognition and diagnosis.
Recognition
· Persistent central
chest pain - often described as a heavy pressure crushing or vice like
pain.
· The pain often spreads
(radiates) to the jaw, neck and down one or both arms
· Breathlessness.
· Discomfort high in the
abdomen similar to indigestion.
· There could be collapse
without warning.
· Ashen skin and blueness
at the lips.
· Rapid, weak pulse which
may be irregular.
· Profuse sweating, skin
cold to the touch.
· Gasping for air (air
hunger).
· Nausea and/or vomiting.

Subject: [OCC-HEALTH] Aspirin used in first aid
Hi all, I work as an Occupational Health Advisor in a Large Local
Authority and would really appreciate some advice/ guidance on an issue that
has arisen.. An individual who works as a Solicitor within the
Authority has recently been on a Designated First Aider course, and he
says he was advised to give Aspirin as first aid for a suspected MI. Is this
something that anyone has come accross?? I have concerns, eg how would a non
medically trained individual correctly diagnose a heart attack? This individual
is now requetsin Thank you in advance for any advice i receive, Shirley Jones |
