I have other work as a first aid assessor and the trainer I work for does not teach the administration of aspirin. My team of first aiders at my OH workplace are not permitted to give aspirin either. The list of signs and symptoms below as written by Robert is what our first aiders are taught, together with a "sense of impending doom". First aiders are taught to call an ambulance, place the casualty in the W position, loosen tight clothing, ask if they have any medication (e.g. GTN) which they can assist the patient to take, and reassure and monitor until ambulance arrives. Some, but not all organisations authorise their first aiders to do this. An individual who works as a Solicitor within the Authority has recently been on a Designated First Aider course, and he says he was advised to give Aspirin as first aid for a suspected MI. Is this something that anyone has come accross?? I have concerns, eg how would a non medically trained individual correctly diagnose a heart attack? This individual is now requetsin Thank you in advance for any advice i receive, Shirley Jones ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Please remove this footer before replying.
