Dear Mike,
 
Thankyou for your Post. There was a run of ten locks, but this was on the  
Cheshire extension over Trafford Moss to Runcorn - the locks being near the  
latter place apparently - the Duke wanted an outlet for his coal to the  
Mersey/Liverpool independent of the Mersey & Irwell Canal. Please don't  think I am 
trying to be knowledgeable... it's from notes while reading the book!
