Southampton Solent University Associate Lecturer in Print Journalism Faculty of Media Arts & Society £31.72 per hour We are seeking an experienced print journalist to work part time as part of a team to deliver our highly regarded Journalism undergraduate degree. Fully NCTJ qualified, you will have significant experience working on newspapers in a reporting and production capacity and ideally have experience of teaching in Higher Education, preferably on a Journalism degree or equivalent and will be able to communicate your skills and knowledge to students. You'll have an in-depth knowledge of the full range of reporting skills, including: news gathering, interviewing, news reporting, district reporting, court reporting, council reporting, feature writing, sports writing, and tailoring copy to suit the audience, following the conventions of British news journalism where appropriate. An up to date and sound knowledge of media law and a high level of accuracy in the use of English language and grammar are required. Experience of working on magazines is very desirable but in any case production skills in sub-editing, layout, standard production routines in a multimedia news room are essential as is advanced knowledge of at least one contemporary page design software package (eg Quark XPress, InDesign). A comprehensive knowledge of the evolving traditions, routines and employment opportunities in the British news print/online media are also required.
