My reply was a little hurried - thanks to Bruce for providing the additional information which I should have dug out myself.

Actually, the cost of a licence to use the UK Core Spec depends on the
size/type of the library. For your institution, I suspect it would be a lot
less - £250.

Not only would it save you lots of time bin drawing up a spec - because the
majority of LMS suppliers are familiar with its structure, you'd be more
likely to get consistent and well-laid-out responses to any ITT you might
derive from it.

Gillian,

Hi - you've probably been given this information by now, but there's a very
useful document called something like 'UK Core specification' for library
systems produced by a consultant in the UK. Catch is that it costs about
£500 - the benefit is that it does loads of work for you and could save you
a lot of time - you'll have to weight it up...

Apologies for cross postings

Does anyone have any experience they can share regarding the production of a
specification for a new/revised

Library management system? Any help and advice would be great fully
received - thanks in advance.

Kind Regards/Mit freundlichen Grüßen

Gillian
