Subject: FOLIO Course on Maximising the Impact of Your Service - February
2009

Apologies for cross-posting.

ScHARR Information Resources Group is pleased to announce that the National
Library for Health is funding the FOLIO 'Maximising the Impact of Your
Service (MAXIM)' Course to begin on Monday 2 February 2009. **Please note
that this course originally ran in 2004, but it has been extensively updated
for 2009 to reflect the changes in health libraries and information services
during this time.**

We are currently collecting registrations; so if you would like to take part
in this course, please follow the instructions below. Please note that there
are 50 places available on a "first come, first served" basis, any
additional registrations will be put on a waiting list and will be contacted
should anyone withdraw their registration prior to the course starting.

Information about the course:
'Maximising the Impact of Your Service' (MAXIM)
Monday 2 February - Friday 27 March 2009

Course aim...
The MAXIM course aims to equip participants with the skills and knowledge
required to successfully maximise the impact of their service and to
effectively evaluate this impact.

Course objectives...
By the end of the MAXIM course participants will be able to:

. Define the concept of maximising impact as it relates to delivery of
health information and library services.
. Identify key user groups.
. Assess and evaluate the needs of users.
. Identify and measure the value of their service.
. Present impact data.

Places are available to any information professional who serves staff
working in the UK NHS. The course will be run over a period of ten weeks
(eight taught weeks (including a reading week) and two weeks for completion
of a portfolio). Course materials are delivered by email, Web pages and
PowerPoint and participants should expect to spend about 2-4 hours a week on
course related activities over the duration of a course. Further details of
the FOLIO programme are available at: http://cpdfolio.pbwiki.com/.

Instructions to register for a place on the MAXIM Course:

There are three ways to join the MAXIM course. They are all managed through
the E-FOLIO Jiscmail list:.

Method 1: Via the E-FOLIO List Homepage.
>From the list homepage
https://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/cgi-bin/webadmin?A0=e-folio follow the second
link in the 'Options' list: "Join or leave E-FOLIO". Fill in your email
address, name, and click on the 'Join...' button. Leave all other settings
on the default settings.

Method 2: Via Email.
Send the command: SUBSCRIBE e-folio <forename surname>
To either: [log in to unmask] or [log in to unmask]

Subject: The subject is ignored by LISTSERV, so can be left blank.
Message: Ideally, all that should be present in the Message body is the
command SUBSCRIBE e-folio <forename surname>.
Note: Your email address is automatically taken from your email, as is your
name if present.

Example: SUBSCRIBE e-folio Joe Bloggs

Method 3: Via the Jiscmail Subscriber's Corner facility.
Subscriber's Corner is a powerful tool for managing your subscriptions.
Though detailed to use at first but, once you get used to it, is much more
flexible than other methods.

>From http://www.jiscmail.ac.uk select "Subscriber's Corner" from the QUICK
LINKS listing on the left-hand side. When you are in Subscriber's Corner
- On the left-hand navigation bar, type in "e-folio" in the 'Search for
List' field. Change 'Show' to "All lists" and then click on Submit.

You should then see a table containing the "e-folio" list. Tick the box to
the left of e-folio, at the bottom of the table change the drop down list
box to "Subscribe" and click on 'Submit changes'. [DO NOT select the FOLIO
list as we are using that list for another FOLIO course at the moment!].

NOTE: Once you have submitted your request to join via any of these three
methods you will have registered a booking for the course, we do not send a
separate confirmation email. You will receive an email reminder about the
course, in the week commencing 26 January so please expect to hear from us
then. Please only join if you are seriously considering undertaking the
course. If your circumstances change in the meantime please unsubscribe at
your earliest opportunity to free up a place for another person.

If you have any queries about the above, please contact us at:
[log in to unmask] and we will be happy to help.

Many thanks and we look forward to seeing you on the course!

Anthea Sutton on behalf of the FOLIO Team.
