Hi Jacqui, in my opinion, subsidence is caused by poor ground conditions
and inadequate foundation design, and does not directly relate to the
presence of a PL in the PIIa context. It should however be noted that
depending on the scale of subsidence, the integrity of the landfill
liner may have been compromised, resulting in the potential soil and/or
groundwater contamination.

Hope that helps.

Roni

Dear all -

Just a quick question regarding houses built on a landfill site -
subsidence cannot be classed as a building effect under Part IIA can it?

Even if the site were to be investigated under Part IIA I am just
checking that others would advise property owners that this is a
buildings insurance issue and would not form an SPL under PIIA. - There
would be no actual contaminant causing it unless the landfill mass was
counted as a source itself?

Jacqui
